Efficient customisable dynamic motion planning for assistive robots in complex human environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
People with impaired physical and mental ability often find it challenging to negotiate crowded or unfamiliar environments, leading to a vicious cycle of deteriorating mobility and sociability. To address this issue we present a novel motion planning algorithm that is able to intelligently deal with crowded areas, permanent or temporary anomalies in the environment (e.g., road blocks, wet floors) as well as hard and soft constraints (e.g., “keep a toilet within reach of 10 meters during the journey”, “always avoid stairs”). Constraints can be assigned a priority tailored on the user’s needs. The planner has been validated by means of simulations and experiments with elderly people within the context of the DALi European project.

Efficient Planning of Autonomous Robots using Hierarchical Decomposition
This paper considers the behavior planning of robots deployed to act autonomously in highly dynamic environments. For such environments and complex tasks, model-based planning requires relatively complex world models to capture all relevant dependencies. The efficient generation of decisions, such that realtime requirements are met, has to be based on suitable means to handle complexity. This p...

Next generation robots will be required to operate alongside people in complex environments that are primarily designed for humans. Humanoid robots present themselves as the logical choice for such tasks. In order to successfully navigate within human environments, humanoid robots require complex dynamic movements with robust balance maintenance on uneven terrain and during unexpected balance d...
متن کاملOn-line Path Planning for Mobile Robots in Dynamic Environments
Motion planning of mobile robots is a complex problem. The complexity further increases when it comes to path planning in dynamic environments. This paper presents an algorithm for on-line path planning of mobile robots in unknown environments with moving obstacles. A mathematical model is established which considers all the current on-line information of robot as well as nearing obstacles. Par...
متن کاملA person follower mobile robot system for indoor environments
Person following is integral to robot companion systems and in service and assistive robots operating in various other scenarios. Human populated environments challenge these robots to navigate around highly dynamic workplaces. The primary challenges for these robotic systems, navigation through uncertainty and occlusion detection and handling, are addressed in this paper. Appearance descriptor...
متن کاملA Framework for Characterization, Planning, and Evaluation of Safe, Comfortable and Customizable Motion of Assistive Mobile Robots (Dissertation Proposal)
Assistive mobile robots that can navigate autonomously can greatly benefit people with mobility impairments. Several important problems need to be addressed for developing such an autonomous robot. This research focuses on one such problem, namely, motion planning in small-scale space. Small-scale space is space within the robot’s sensory horizon. Motion planning consists of finding a time-para...
